Residents,Â
Good morning—some good news on a beautiful, snowy Sunday in Sands Point!
As shared with you, the cell monopole on the Village Club campus, which hosted Verizon and T-Mobile, physically snapped in half and collapsed, unexpectedly, on Friday night, taking down those cell services in the area.Â
I am glad to report that by 6 pm last night, less than 24 hours after failing, we were able to arrange for a restoration of service (Verizon only) with the deployment of a mobile, emergency, 120-foot-tall cell tower.Â
(See photo below)Â
Verizon took the lead on the emergency response and did an amazing job. (While T-Mobile did respond, we don’t yet know when they will reinstall any antennas on the temporary tower. We will continue to press them.)
As last reported, it will likely take 1 to 2 years to get a permanent, new tower, with the regulatory, technical, and contractual challenges ahead.
On a side note, I want to thank Josh Strugatz (a non-resident, club member), who scrambled to meet me at 6:30 am in the bitter cold to help me ensure the tower’s positioning wouldn’t interfere with golfing this coming season. Â
This is likely to be the final report on this matter, unless or until new material info develops.Â
That is all for now.Â
Mayor Peter A. FormanÂ
