Monopole Update--as of last evening

Residents,

Good morning—some good news on a beautiful, snowy Sunday in Sands Point!

As shared with you, the cell monopole on the Village Club campus, which hosted Verizon and T-Mobile, physically snapped in half and collapsed, unexpectedly, on Friday night, taking down those cell services in the area.

I am glad to report that by 6 pm last night, less than 24 hours after failing, we were able to arrange for a restoration of service (Verizon only) with the deployment of a mobile, emergency, 120-foot-tall cell tower.

(See photo below)

Verizon took the lead on the emergency response and did an amazing job.  (While T-Mobile did respond, we don’t yet know when they will reinstall any antennas on the temporary tower.  We will continue to press them.)

As last reported, it will likely take 1 to 2 years to get a permanent, new tower, with the regulatory, technical, and contractual challenges ahead.

On a side note, I want to thank Josh Strugatz (a non-resident, club member), who scrambled to meet me at 6:30 am in the bitter cold to help me ensure the tower’s positioning wouldn’t interfere with golfing this coming season.

This is likely to be the final report on this matter, unless or until new material info develops.

That is all for now.

Mayor Peter A. Forman
