Good day, Residents of Sands Point,
Welcome to our Sept 3rd 2024 newsletter.
These brief newsletters are being sent by email only. Periodically, we will print and republish a group of them and mail them to homes.
Major news below on the replacement of DeJana Carting in the Village.
In advance, best wishes for a pleasant beginning of September. (Oh, summer, where did you go? ;-)

Injured Officer
As mentioned two weeks ago, one of our officers was injured when his vehicle collided with an allegedly drunk driver, who was breathalyzed and arrested. He is still recovering at home. We continue to wish him a speedy recovery.
A number of you have expressed concern about events at the Preserve that invite potentially drunk drivers and want to know what we can do about it. The Chief is running an investigation and we will be looking carefully at this.
Sanitation Contract: Dejana, out
Our 5-year contract with Dejana Carting is expiring at the end of September. As required by law, this went out to public bid. A number of bidders, including Dejana, responded. The winning bidder on a new 5-year contract was Meadow Carting. They were many hundreds of thousands of dollars less than the next best bidder. And they bid only slightly higher than the current year’s contract. As such, they will be taking over on Oct 1st.
Now the really good news…..Both of the drivers who will be staffing our routes have worked the same routes for Dejana. One is Bennito. The other will be either Patricio (who currently handles one of the routes) or “JC”, who has handled these routes in the Village in the past. That means they know the routes, they know us, they know our properties.
We hope, and expect, that they will deliver the same fine service to which we are accustomed. Overall, we couldn't be happier!
No. We are not moving Village Hall to the mansion at the Club
Not sure where this one got started, but there have never been discussions, formally or informally, about moving Village Hall to the mansion at the Village Club.
Class-action lawsuits for water contamination
We continue to pursue class-action lawsuits against Dupont, 3M, and Tyco for their production of “forever” chemicals (PFAS and PFOA) and some of our groundwater contamination. We expect to eventually settle for approximately $1.7mm. While that amount is nowhere near our costs of water filtration infrastructure to mitigate this chemical, it is nonetheless helpful. We will keep you informed.
Door-to-door solicitors--Success!
Late last year we received a request from a firm that wanted to go door-to-door to solicit in our village. We asked our residents to fill out non-solicitation forms that effectively discourage solicitors. You did and responded strongly! This particular firm never pursued their request. This is an example of us working together for the common good.
Electronics Recycling
Please remember there is a free electronics recycling shed available to residents outside Village Hall for discarded electronics--at the end of the parking lot. (No hazardous waste, vacuums, paint, microwaves, air conditioners, or refrigerators, please.)
Your Contact Information
At the request of the Sands Point Police Dept, Village Hall, and the Water Dept, please make sure we have your household’s information.
If we don't have this contact information, then they will not see our newsletters, water reports, info on civic matters, and importantly, emergency alerts.
If any of your contact information has changed in the past two years, please send us the info while this is top-of-mind.
See contact info page at: https://www.sandspoint.gov/post/resident-contact-info-form
This site will include instructions on how to return the info to us.
In conclusion:
We will send another email newsletter soon with more updates.
Again, best wishes for a good beginning of September.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Administration
