Public Safety announcement regarding event in Village today.

Dear Sands Point Residents,

I am writing to let you know about a very unfortunate event that occurred in Sands Point today.

I will limit the details of this message for obvious reasons, but to summarize:

An apparently emotionally disturbed individual, unknown to the Village police department until today, allegedly broke into two homes in the north end of the village.  Officers responded and encountered a combative, non-compliant individual who attacked the officers.

The suspect was eventually subdued and taken into custody after a prolonged physical confrontation.

Three officers were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of cuts, bruises, bites, and sprains.

Police continue to evaluate these two alleged burglaries and assaults but all is now calm again in the Village.

As stated, the individual is in custody and we believe this was an isolated event.

Thank you to our police department for their response and handling of this event.

Good night and that is all for now,

Mayor Peter A. Forman

Please let the residents be aware if the intruder was a family member or acquaintance, or an unknown individual.

Were the home owners there? Please we need additional details

Thank you

Please alert us with more information on this matter,, such as; where the individual was from, how he entered the village, did he have a weapon on him, does he have prior arrests? Please be as transparent as possible when it comes to crime in our area. Thank you, Mayor Forman.
