Dear Sands Point Residents,

First and foremost, a Happy 250th to our country! We hope, in advance, that everyone has a fun, and not too hot, weekend.

Next, an update on offshore noise:

The Village has done a great job over the past few years of shutting down two of the three sources of disturbing nighttime noise:

1--We passed laws that extended our noise ordinances to 1,000 feet offshore. And installed buoys and rafts to alert boaters as to our noise and speed laws.  That has had a dramatic positive impact on our mutual quality of lives.

2--We have worked diligently with our neighbors and other residents to reduce the impact of amplified sound blaring past one's own property.

3--But with noise from across the Long Island Sound, we have only had limited success.  We have no authority over amplified sound coming from the Bronx, Queens, or boats greater than 1,000 feet from our shores.  We have pressed Nassau County Police and New York City Police to help as they can, we will continue to do so.

We all experience the nighttime thumping bass.  As shared, we will continue to put pressure where we can.

Again, warm (but not too hot) wishes for a glorious July 4th Independence Day to our great country.

Happy Birthday, America!

Regards,

Peter A. Forman

Mayor
