Residents—Some time-sensitive alerts--please read!

  • We are declaring a Snow Emergency (in the event that it is needed).

  • The cellular monopole at the Club is leaning heavily and may be at risk of “structural failure”.

    • If that happens, there will be a disruption to cell service, especially in Harbor Acres and maybe Forest Drive area.

    • The cell carrier has been alerted and says they are urgently addressing.

    • Emergency teams are moving in.

    • It is not clear if they can stabilize the tower.

    • If they cannot, they will need to remove the tower.

    • That would leave the area with no cell service for an unknown number of hours or days.

    • If so, we will seek to get a mobile cell tower installed asap.

    • Any walking on the golf grounds for any reason is hereby prohibited (including snow-shoeing).

    • The guard gate at the Club is being lowered to prevent access.

    • We will be in touch by email/text with updates as needed.

  • No garbage pickup on Monday.

  • The snow clearing contractor has tested their equipment and tells us they are “ready to go!”

  • Some general weather and power rules and info to be aware of.

    • In the event of a power outage:

    • Please do NOT call the police to report or ask for updates on outages. They cannot assist

    • To report downed wires or power outages

      • via telephone, call PSEG Long Island’s Electric Service line at 1-800-490-0075.

      • to utilize MyAlerts, PSEG Long Island’s text message service, have your account number available and text REG to PSEGLI (773454). Once registered, report power outages by texting “OUT” to PSEGLI (773454).

    • You can check for outage updates using the outage map at https://www.psegliny.com/c.cfm/Outage

    • Because of the low density of Sands Point, it is not unusual for us to get lesser priority than more dense areas.

    • We, the Village, will press them, nonetheless.

  • DOWNED WIRES Should be Considered “live.”

    • Do not approach or drive over a downed line, and do not touch anything it might be in contact with.

    • You SHOULD call our police at 516-883-3100 to report a downed line

  • DOWNED TREES

    • Please report downed trees that are IMPEDING TRAFFIC to our police.

    • Please note, all tree removals require a permit.

    • During this snow emergency, if an emergency tree removal is necessary, call our police who will come to document and authorize the removal.

    • Removing trees without a permit is a violation of Village Code.

    • ALL TREE REMOVAL COMPANIES MUST HAVE A LICENSE WITH THE VILLAGE.

That is all for now.
