Recent loss of trees on HAR

Dear Residents,

The Board of Trustees knows how important the natural beauty of our community is to everyone, and we know that the recent removal of several trees may have been surprising and disappointing to see. Please know this decision by Code Enforcement was not made lightly.

After careful evaluation, the trees in question were found to be heavily damaged, ant-infested, and damaging the owner's septic system. Disallowing their removal posed risks to the owner’s home and to passing cars.

As we hope you have heard, preserving old-growth trees and the bucolic character of our village is a priority. Our goal is always to act responsibly while maintaining the beauty, safety, and integrity of the community.

The removed trees will be replaced with new trees that will eventually be similar in height and diameter to the ones removed--although that will take years.

Thank you,

Village Management, the Board of Trustees, & Mayor
